"hepatitis b treatment - and the mystery of how I got infected"

About: Lewisham PCT / Health visiting University Hospital Lewisham / General surgery

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with hep b after a regular blood test, following a brief stay in hospital because of fall resulting in black eye. Having been given all information it turned out that there was no way I could have contracted it, yet after repeat blood test doctors insisted I had it. I was said to be an acute case so it cleared up, but chronic cases can be lethal. On bright side, it reduced my amisulpride dosage from 1000 to 600 mg, so I guess such scare had its benefits. I am less drowsy and I don't skip medication as often as I used to.

A good thing was: I got all the information about virus straight away. But a bad thing was: not knowing how on earth I got infected. All health professionals insisted that I got it in one of 2 ways, dirty needle or unprotected sex – none of which I had experienced in 3 to 6 months prior to test, which is the incubation period.
