"Overall experience of my time at RVI, excellent..."

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary

What I liked

From the moment I was admitted to ward 40 I was treated with respect and dignity by all the nursing staff. They genuinely seemed to like the job they were doing and i think this was reflected in there attitude towards their patients, they were a happy bunch with a good sense of humour . Which is needed when your feeling down in the dumps.!!!!

They explained why and what they were doing. Nothing was any trouble no matter what you asked of them.My consultant came to see me the day of my operation to go over my procedure and to check all was well with me prior to surgery. I then saw an anaesthetist who outlined what would happen when I got to theatre. My after care was excellent and saw my consultant before discharge. I also liked the visiting hours, 2 hours afternoon and evening was enough. When you are recovering you like some quiet time.

What could be improved

Nothing as far as I was concerned

Anything else?

Thought TV was costly I was a patient for 9 days and it cost me £27..50.

We would like to acknowledge and thank you for your very kind comments posted on NHS Choices about your recent stay on ward 40 at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. We strive to treat all patients as you describe, with the utmost dignity and respect at all times and we are proud to say that our staff do enjoy their job. Our patients are our priority and knowing that your experience reflected this is very important to us. Your comments have been shared with the staff who will be greatly encouraged by your kind remarks.

With regard to the bedside TV/telephone system, the Trust is required to provide these systems for patients to use if they choose to. The system within the inpatient wards at the Royal Victoria Infirmary is provided by a company called Hospedia. Unfortunately, their pricing mechanism is not within the control of the Trust but some concessions are available to certain groups of patients. Literature is available around the hospital (at the payment machines) to explain the pricing or you can call the Hospedia operator for further details. You can also find more details about the company on the Hospedia website (www.hospedia.co.uk).

We would all like to wish you well in the future and thank you again for taking the time to let us know about your experience
