"My father in law at Springwood Residential home"

About: Springwood

(as a relative),

My Father in law is now a resident of Springwood. This has completely changed his life! Before he went into springwood he was an extremely unhappy person despite the best efforts from us his family he was finding life difficult. He was unable to look after himself, couldn't cope with the day to day situations that were essential for his health and well being.NOW! he's wonderful! The staff at Springwood are AMAZING! They treat him an all the other residents with the upmost respect and dignity. The level of care is outstanding. Everything about the home is geared entirely in meeting each persons individual needs. For us as his family it is so lovely to see the fantastic change in him. It is a pure pleasure to visit him.We are made to feel so welcome nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The cleanliness of the home is good and as for the food well Egon Ronay would surely make it a mitchelin star kitchen. Care homes have recently received some bad press. It's nice to be able to share some good experiences.

Dear Bakers,

The staff and I can’t thank you enough for the glowing report about your father-in-law since he moved in with us. Trying to manage on your own at home can be far too much, even with the best intentions and efforts of family, who try very hard to do the best they can for their loved one, as you well know. The decision to move into a home is difficult on everyone. You must have worried endlessly…Am I doing the right thing? Will he be happy? If it’s not right will he ever forgive me? You and the family came and saw Springwood, checked us out ahead of time and got on our waiting list. Then when a place became available you took that leap of faith. And thank goodness, because it has made a world of difference to him, and obviously to yourselves, and certainly to us! He adds so much to the life of the home – up and about early, eating well and always quick with a cheerful greeting. It is so gratifying to see a new resident find their feet so quickly and start to really enjoy themselves.

Yes, you’re right, there is a lot of bad press out there, and I’ll be the first to admit that there are many days when I think, we can do better than this! But by and large we get it right for the residents at Springwood by constantly expecting the very best from the whole team. If any staff member fails to see the importance of their work or underestimates the effect their attitude can have on a person, you have just provided them with a brilliant example of what it means to succeed in care. You will have given other families courage too, those who may be struggling with the same difficult decision. So thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Patient Opinion website.

Your story inspires us all at Springwood to persevere in these difficult times, to continue to provide real person-centred care to families such as yours. Do enjoy your time together here and let us know if there is anything else we can do. With the warmer months almost upon us you will want to take full advantage of our lovely gardens. No doubt your Father-in-law will soon be showing you round the greenhouse! Long may you all thrive with us.
