"The very best care provided to meet my complex..."

About: Kettering General Hospital

What I liked

My Son Reuben was admitted last week following a spiking temparature. We were firstly asked to visit PAU for observations. within 2 hours Reuben was transferred upto Dolphin Ward.

May i add that Reuben is a complex little boy and cannot make decisions for himself, or however let you know how is he feeling or if in pain.Thankfully Reuben is well known at KGH and is always treated with the dignitiy and respect he deserves.

All staff on PAU and Dolphin Ward always great him with a smile and get down on his level and talk to him, even when they know there will be no response.

They provided Reuben with a bay at the end of the ward so it was a bit quieter for him.

One of the Play Specialists even took it upon herself to remove the bubble machine from the treatment room into his bay, to help calm and relax him. this did work and made his stay that bit more comfortable.

All doctors and consultants kept us very informed of his treatments and what would be happeneing next. the doctor as always made sure Reubens needs were met and that he was comfortable. He even had some help and advice for us when Reuben was discharged with regards to Reubens diet.

Reuben does have open acsess to Dolphin Ward for his seizures this has always been peace of mind for us as his parents and carer to ensure he is seen quicker.

I always praise the staff, doctors, consultants of KGH for the way we as a family have been treated over the years not just last week.

Thankyou all.

Kind Regards

Louise

What could be improved

N/A

Anything else?

I forgot to mention above. The bay Reuben was provided with also had an adult size bed in it. So one of us were able to stay in with him with as the bed was the right length for a parent.

I do feel that this is so much better than the blue chairs that folded out to make a single bed, they used to be very uncomfy and noisy.

I do feel this is why they provided this bay as they know Reuben needs constant supervision from an adult.

Kind Regards

Louise

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with these much appreciated comments about the care you received from the Children's Wards.

We always try to provide care that is planned around each individual child, ensuring that their specific needs are met. This is never more important than when a child has difficulty understanding and communicating with the staff. I am so pleased that you feel Reuben was treated in this manner and that our efforts made his and your experience more pleasant.

I am pleased to say that when we move to our purpose built children’s ward we will have extra specialist equipment for complex needs children and each patients bed will have a full size parents bed along side it to provide resident parents with that much needed comfort.

I will ensure that your comments are shared with all of the staff who contributed to Reuben’s care.

Katrina Allen
