"I was told there is a six month waiting list for Alcohol treatment"

About: Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust / Addiction services

(as the patient),

I just want verification on the information I have been told today.

I self referred myself to Plummer Court, Newcastle upon Tyne for my Alcohol problem 2 months ago. I was desperate as it was to call them up by myself, and was disappointed they could only see me for an assessment a month from that date.

Foolishly I tried to self detox with Valium and ended up overdosing and in hospital. I have managed to stop drinking and started again. I telephoned Plummer Court to ask why a Key Worker hasn't been in touch with me me yet (2 months on from initial contact), I was told that I was on the priority list and normally, people need to wait 6 months! Can someone confirm this as true?

Hello I am the manager for North of Tyne Addictions Services and thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. I can confirm that people need not wait 6 months for help and we are very sorry for the perception you have been given regarding our service.

We work closely with partnership organisations in Newcastle & North Tyneside like NECA, Alcoholics Anonymous and the Cyrenians to deliver the best possible care, treatment and support we can for people with alcohol needs.

Can I ask you to contact me directly on 0191 2061100 to discuss this individual case?
