"Excellent care from staff under a lot of pressure."

What I liked

Though the staff were under a lot of pressure, they were friendly, and mostly treated me like a real person! One member of staff on duty when I was admitted to the ward was absolutely brilliant.

One of the care assistants in particular (I am afraid that I did not get her name) was marvellous in helping me have a shower - she must have been drenched, but was really good at getting me (and my hair) washed and dried.

What could be improved

I am a Type 1 Diabetic - the staff on the Trauma ward were not totally up-to-speed on the needs/timings for insulin administration.

Whilst I am aware that the timetable on the ward was totally different to my personal one, I do think that the basic "insulin 30 mins before food" would have helped me. On one particular occassion they took my blood sugar at 6.30am and it was high - I was then given breakfast at 8am, but not given any insulin until 9am!

Also, when I was first brought into A&E at around 8.30pm, my blood sugar reading was 22 - very high - but I was given no insulin until 2am when a very considerate nurse on the trauma ward went out of his way to sort this out for me - and gave me water to drink, as I was extremely thirsty!
