"Disgusted, Angry and infuriating"

About: King's Mill Hospital

What I liked

Nothing other than other patients were more use full regarding services than any medical staff on the ward even after switch over.

What could be improved

I was very disappointed with having to wait 9 hours to get a result. we took our 3 and a half month old baby in at 4pm, expecting a few hours at the hospital. after being asked questions on several occasions and 4 hours later we was moved to a ward. Still at this point we had no food and nor had my little girl. We was unable to give her foods until we had medical advice as this was why we was at the hospital. After hours of being woken up and poked my baby got very irritated and just wanted sleep. 10pm we was told we could go home as they did not know what was wrong. we did not leave the hospital until 1 am due to waiting so long for a senior pediatrition. who then said we could only try medication and come back in 3 weeks to see if it is working. Other parents in the ward were also sent home with no explanations and some had been back every week and been giving the wrong medication. no staff mentioned if they had food etc for the children and babies on the ward until 6 hours later when i got frustrated with the services. we then found out after being at the hospital for 7 hours they have facilities for parents to get hot drinks etc.

we would never recommend this hospital and plan on moving my daughter to another after poor services and treatment.

Anything else?

For a children's department the services are poor and i am sure many would agree.

Thank you for your message. Our Service Director for Paediatrics has provided the follwing information in response to your concerns:

"I am very sorry for the poor experience you have experienced on our paediatric ward. Without knowing the exact details of the case it is impossible to answer the specific issues and we would welcome an opportunity to meet you and discuss this in more detail.

From a general point of view, there are usually good reasons for a delay in the doctor coming to review a child but we should always explain this to families. I was sorry to hear that you and your baby were not offered any food or drink over a number of hours. There are facilities for parents to make hot drinks and have a break. Children are provided with milk, drinks and food on request and of course at meal times. I will ensure that these points are shared with our ward leader and her staff.

We are very proud of the care we offer to children and their families who are admitted to our ward and am very disappointed to hear your coments, if you do wish to talk to us please contact our Patient Advice Team on 01623 672222 who can arrange for us to meet."
