"Haleacre Mental Health Unit = wrong diagnosis"

About: Amersham Hospital

(as the patient),

I was assigned to a Consultant at this practice after BUPA refused to pay for psychotherapy/further help (despite a comprehensive corporate-level subscription).

The Consultant was late, in my view, uninterested, spent only 25 minutes of ('up to 90 minutes' per the letter) first appointment and, after that (short) time pronounced that I was fine albeit they wrote and confirmed my diagnosis of BP2 to my GP. When I told my GP that I was unimpressed (I have reason to be very visual and good at assessing people from other disabilities/a previous career) they chided me telling me these people work very hard you know (they all seem to be on holiday when I need help). So I kept seeing them. In my opinion this nearly cost me my life; had I followed this Consultant's timescale, method and timing for an SNRI withdrawal I think I would have not seen 2011 New Year's Eve.

Much distress and too many drugs later it has just been confirmed that my diagnosis was wrong and I should never have been on the drugs that in my view took away my life for the last 18months-2 years.

This mental health unit is shabby, chaotic and has been disgraceful in it's lack of attention to what I was saying (I knew there was something wrong but felt was ignored).

Based on my experience I would not recommend it.
