"Thoroughly depressing and frustrating."
About: Solihull Hospital Solihull Hospital Solihull B91 2JL
What I liked
Ward 17 provides a good standard of care most of the time. Ward 18 is quite a different story. Patient in for 5 days without consultant review. Condescending and arrogant Doctor. Staff seem unable to think outside the box. Patient left without being able to feed/drink by themselves. Transferred beds and somebody else wearing patient's dressing gown, which was wet and had to be washed, not to mention other missing items not recovered. This was in same ward. There seems to be no effort to read patient notes when shift changes. Staff seem surprised to hear that patient cannot feed themselves. Patient now severely dehydrated and depressed which is not surprising. Family feel that, unless they can discharge the patient, the outcome will be terminal. Having dealt with many wards in many hospitals this is the worst experience. Any attempt to discuss patient's well being are met with defensive attitude. The feeling of utter helplessness in the face of staff attitudes is not what we need when serious illness occurs.
What could be improved
On Ward 18, most things must be improved. Other people complaining re same attitudes and lack of care.
