What I liked
My father was admitted on 22/3 and died 4 days later on the HDU. All the medical and nursing staff our family encountered couldn't have been kinder. My brother and I were there overnight as he was dying and the offers of coffee and tea regularly were really welcome. I was impressed at the bright clean-looking environment (though my poor father did find looking at the red "Emergency" sign through the window all night rather depressing for the two days he was conscious enough to be aware!).
What could be improved
The only thing I found a little surprising was that the ward round still involved the team standing at the end of the bed discussing the patient in detail in a way that is audiable to all and using medical jargon which I am sure patients find disconcerting - even when I was doing house jobs 25 yrs ago we had started having the ward round in a side room and keeping end of bed discussion to the minimum.
People are always quick to complain but often forget to record positive experiences. Sadly my father's condition was such that it soon became clear he would not recover but I do know he appreciated the care he received on this admission (both in A&E and HDU
