"Do not use this Hospital for Elective Hip Surgery."

About: North Manchester General Hospital

What I liked

Nothing

What could be improved

Everything.

I was at the hospital in 2006 for a Hip Resurfacing under a consultant and the Clinical work was carried out fine. Administration though was anightmare at the time and has proved so ever since.

At every outpatient clinic, I woudl be kept waiting for an hour or 2 before being sent for an x-ray. Then a fursther hour or 2 to see the consultant. between 2 dn 4 hours for a 2 minute consultancy with a Junior doctor. I even walked out of one appointment as I had not been seen for 3 hours. During this time, no explanation were given by admin staff, no ideas of delys or when we woudl be seen. I was not alone. Everyone was in the same boat. Appalling. I would be bankrupt if my business carried on this way.

The final straw was when my resurfacing collapsed. I have now spent 5 weeks, and 3 cancelled appontments, trying to see the consultant for him to confirm what I knew and the registrar had told me 3 weeks before. I need reconstructive surgery.

Now the problem is when am I going to get my surgery. Despite promise after promise, I still have no date. I have been in agony for 5 weeks so far with my whole life on hold and I cannot even get a date.

Problem is, it is the consultant's choice. Cant change hospital or consultant without joining massive waiting lists. Whatever happened to patients choice.

For anyone thinkning of using NMGH for their Hip Surgery. Dont. Not ure if anywhere else is better, but they cannot be worse. Even the initial surgery has falied.

Anything else?

What more can I say.
