"A short visit made bearable by the staff"

What I liked

I went to A&E at 7pm as I had a high temperature, which can be a sign of neutropenic sepsis, a possible side effect of chemotherapy treatment which can be fatal if not treated rapidly with the appropriate protocol. Everyone swung into action straight away and in an hour I had all the tests and a chest Xray. They were all very pleasant and reassuring as I was quite anxious.

By nine oclock my temperature was down and I had the good news that my blood count was normal and it wasn't neutropenia but probably just an infection, and I was admitted to the Medical Assessment Unit. Despite being very busy with all the new admissions, once again everyone was very cheerful and friendly. The sister went out of her way to get some sandwiches and a cuppa for me and my partner as we had gone without our evening meal.

The registrar came and checked me over and decided that I was OK to go home with some antibiotics so I was discharged and home in bed by midnight. I felt a bit of a fraud but was reassured that I had done the right thing by coming in.

Thank you once again to all in A&E and MAU for making this visit as un-stressful as possible.

What could be improved

As usual the nurses were so busy and I'm sure a few more staff members wouldn't go amiss!
