What I liked
My aunt was admiited to Hexham Hospital on 29th March and was transferred to Wansbeck Hospital later that day as she required specialist care. She spent overnight in HDU and the following morning, doctors investigated her condition and found that she had terminal cancer. She was then transferred to the Palliative Care Unit. As her next of kin, the HDU team contacted me to advise of her condition and on arrival at the hospital to see her, the HDU team spoke to my husband and I at length about her condition and prognosis. It was devastating to discover that her life expectancy was literally days, as we were all (including my aunt) unaware that she was so ill. On transfer to the Palliative Care Unit, we were updated by the doctors. Sadly my aunt passed away on 4th April, only 5 days after receiving the diagnosis. I just want to thank both teams that looked after her, for their kindness, care, professionalism and compassion. Every single member of staff that we met, from cleaners to ward clerks, auxiliaries to nurses were so kind and supportive and made a truely awful time, so much more bearable. I admire their ability to deal with every aspect of the end of life process with such high levels of care and professionalism, Thank you all - your kindness will never be forgotten
"Excellent care of the patient and outstanding..."
