"My experience of A&E at Crosshouse Hospital"

About: Crosshouse Hospital

(as the patient),

Two main points of dissatisfaction involving my visit to Crosshouse A&E dept to investigate a collarbone fracture:

1. Scarf type triangular sling provided to last all weekend - elastiplast fixtures fell off after a couple of hours. Felt there was totally insufficient support provided until next visit when immobiliser sling fitted.

2. Before leaving A&E after being attended to, was referred to Rapid Response team for assistance over weekend. Rapid Response team coordinator required to know when next appointment was and she and I stood for over 15 mins at the nurse desk with more than 6 nurses talking to each other (and no other patients or otherwise present) before anyone responded to our appeals or presence. Afternoon chat seemed to take presidence.

Dear flier865

Thank you for using Patient Opinion to provide this very valuable feedback. I am sorry that you did not receive a response - you should have and I would like to apologise that you did not.

I am currently reviewing how NHS Ayrshire and Arran consider the valuable feedback and will be ensuring that when people take the time to provide this through this site that appropriate actions and responses are made promptly.

I will ensure that your feedback is included in learning and improvement events that are arranged with staff, ensuring that awareness of the issues you have raised is heightened.

We have been introducing monitoring systems that provide clinical staff with 'real-time' feedback on care experiences such as the ones you have outlined - helping them to take immediate steps to resolve concerns and ensure you have the high quality care experiences we want to provide for everyone.

Best wishes

Craig White
