"Would highly recommend the maternity care"

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary

What I liked

I gave birth in the birthing pool suite in December 2011 and was very impressed with the service i recieved. The room was wonderful, very large and clean, the pool was fantastic and very good pain relief! The two midwives who treated me were excellent, very considerate and explained everything clearly to me. They happily answered my barrage of questions and were very accommodating of my husband and mother who were also with me.

I was brought some food almost as soon as the baby was cleaned up and it was of a much higher standard than I expected of hospital food! I was taken to the ward and offered a wheelchair if I did not feel strong enough to walk.

The ward was clean and tidy as was the bathroom. The midwives were excellent. Very attentive and I buzzed those poor ladies about a thousand times during the night when I had trouble feeding the baby and they were so helpful. They came to check on me every hour or so just to see how I was getting on. I was shown how to change a nappy and wrap the baby up by some very kind midwives, I wish i could remember their names. In the morning my whole bed was stripped and cleaned whilst I was in the bathroom and the cleaners were lovely too. The breastfeeding support was excellent, i really couldnt fault it. I saw a couple of different breastfeeding specialists and they were very helpful. Even after i left the hospital, i left something behind and the midwives did all they could to locate the missing item but with no luck. all in all i was 100% impressed with the hospital.

What could be improved

The parking. The disabled spaced are down by the maternity unit which means that women in the throes of labour have to waddle across the whole car park to get there!

Anything else?

I would be very happy to have my next baby at this hospital.
