"Fantastic care, but I think the ambulance took too long to arrive"

About: Great Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust Royal United Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My husband collapsed in the garden, causing a head trauma, and he also has a history of heart problems. I called 999, and spoke to somebody on four different occasions. Whilst they asked all of the right questions, and gave us good advice and information, it took 40 minutes for the ambulance to arrive. If this is "rapid response" I am not impressed.

When the paramedics arrived, they were surprised and said it didn't seem on, and that my husband should have been on priority. The care we received from the paramedics was absolutely wonderful - 11 out of 10, they kept everyone cheerful and I can't fault them at all. Similarly the care my husband received at the Royal United was fantastic. My concern is with the call centre and how long it took to get an ambulance out to my husband.
