"Excellent care given, treated with dignity and..."

About: Bedford Hospital South Wing

What I liked

Pain relief was available immediately and I was extremely well looked after and involved in my care.

What could be improved

Initial appointment with Gynaecologist was disappointing. Although it was agreed I needed a hysterectomy I wasn't given any further information or asked if I had any questions, which I did. Just told to make an appointment for biopsy. Second appointment with different Gynaecologist was much more successful. All questions answered to my complete satisfaction - lovely lady who also carried out my op.

Could possibly have had more information on how to clean wounds on discharge ( one of which was vaginal stitching - very painful but obviously needed cleaning).

Also, was issued with ferrous sulphate tablets (28) due to anaemia but not told if I would need to see a doctor for further supply or if the one box was sufficient. Probably should have asked myself with hindsight.

Thank you for posting your comments on Bedford Hospital's NHS Choices site. Your comments will be passed on to the Gynaecology team, particularly on the need for more information on wound care after an operation.
