My husband has sleep apnea and I went with him to his sleep clinic appointment hoping to be able to ask a couple of questions as his partner.
We sat in the corridor together outside the sleep laboratory. When a clinic representative spoke to my husband and asked him to go to a clinic room. I was given neither an acknowledgement that I was with my husband or any opportunity to ask my questions.
I realise that appointments are time limited and there is the issue of patient confidentiality. However my husband's condition affects myself and my quality of sleep personally and I have not had my questions answered by the experts at the clinic.
I am wondering what support is currently available for carers/partners for sleep apnea patients within NHSGGC SPPA. Is my experience an isolated situation? I am wondering if there is a gap in current services and if so how can closer working be developed with eg the British Lung Foundation for carer/ partner support .
