"Occasions of great care and attention let down by..."

About: Chorley & South Ribble Hospital

What I liked

The Student Nurses were enthusiastic and caring. Although very busy they always made the extra effort to follow through requests or attend as directed by Staff Nurses.

A good atmosphere on the whole - this is vital to mental well being and recovery.

What could be improved

A visit to check on progress by the operating Consultant would have made all the difference to provide re-assurance.

More staff or shorter shifts? The existing Nursing staff were very very busy. This placed pressure on Staff Nurses. Mine was brusque and bordering on dismissive. certainly did not listen on several occasions - resulting in inadequate pain relief and monitoring. Perhaps motivating the experienced staff to show more care and attention with extra up to date training? Or more pay?

Dietary requirements were hit and miss - better communication needed.

Anything else?

It seemed evident the nursing staff were having to deal with the threat of closure of a vital local Hospital.
