"5 hours of screaming in pain and treated like an..."

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute)

What I liked

nothing, i am still traumatised

What could be improved

everything, especially the nurses.

Im 21 years old, female and healthy(ish)

i had no idea what was wrong so i decided to call an ambulance.I had pain was in my stomach just below my ribs but i couldnt breathe i was just screaming in pain.

Anything else?

I waited for the ambulance for 30 minutes and just got a taxi instead. We got there and I was shaking and screaming in agony. The receptionist told me the wait was going to be four hours. Four hours!A re you kidding me? I cant breathe. So we waited, I was crying so much and screaming in pain, clutching my stomach underneath my ribs, there where about 3 other people in the waiting room. One woman had hurt her toe, she got seen before me. I was in that much pain I had to go outside so I could cry and scream, just so people wouldn't look at me like I was a freak. The woman at the reception gave me no sympathy. I was having a panic attack outside the hospital and my friends where getting increasingly worried as the pain wasn't fading and I was really struggling to breath. Finally they called me in to see a nurse, after 3 hours, which felt like a lifetime! The first thing she said to me with a disapproving voice was "right, what have you taken?". They thought I was on drugs and that is why I wasn't seen straight away. I was as sober as a nun at this time, being in constant pain for that long. I was completely traumatised by the whole experience. I now can say I hate that hospital and I will never go back there again. After quizzing me about what I had 'taken' she then said it would be a further 5 hours to see a doctor. It was ridiculous. I was so angry and I was still in pain but I couldn't wait there any longer. That was the most traumatising experience i had ever had, 3+ hours of pain and it was possible the worse pain i could ever imagine and the worse thing was i was in hospital.

Turns out i have gallstones and a hiatus hernia. My doctors tell me being in that amount of pain for that amount of time was very very dangerous given my diagnosis and explained the pain to be worse than childbirth
