"Couldnt have been treated better or by more..."

What I liked

As soon as a Dr realised that I did not have indigestion, things happened as quickly as they could. I was seen by the appropriate people and given the appropriate treatment. I was fitted in for an untrasound Sunday afternoon to check that my baby was ok, and again on Monday morning by a sonographer to see exactly where my problem was.

The staff on the ward were absolutely fantastic. I was in the Annie Zunz ward. My first nurse was great. If I was her I would have wanted to take the buzzer off me, but she never once made me feel like I was bothering her and she did whatever she could to help me. My next nurse was equally brilliant. I cannot fault any of the staff in the ward.

After such a brilliant experience I am now wishing that In had chosen this hospital as my maternity care one. Not that I have any problems with where I am, but if I could change now without causing any problems, I would.

What could be improved

In the A and E department, I would have liked to have been listened to more when I said I did not have indigestion. And I also had a nurse who tried to give me a third dose of gaviscon even after throwing one up ask me if this was my first pregnancy and when I replied yes, she just smiled and said 'well you get this when you are pregnant'

It would also have helped me to write this if you had on your website your staff's names and photos as being in such pain I didnt catch them all.

Anything else?

I am just shy of 20 weeks pregnant. We arrived at 5.25 am and were signed in by the admin staff. I was seen by the assessment nurse within 10 minutes and told him I had gaviscon thinking it may have been indigestion of some kind even though I had never had this before. He gave me paracetamol tablets which didnt help.

By 6.30am we were finally given a bed and my pain was increasing. The nurse was friendly and put a catheter in my arm. By 7.10 a Doctor came to see me. He believed I had indigestion, and about 40 minutes later I was given gaviscon again, and could not keep it down.

Change of shift was at 8am. Unfortunately the next staff nurse, he was fantastic. Did whatever he could to help me.

By 9.15am my pain was escalating, and the next Dr could came to see me, and apologised for taking so long but they were very busy. I told her of my symptoms, she had a feel of my tummy and straight away said she wanted to get a surgeon to talk to me. By 10am I was seen by a surgeon and a gynecologist and they were both amazing.

By 11 am, they had organised me paracetamol IV and within minutes I was out of excruciating pain and taken upstairs to the ward. Then the gynecologist Dr scanned my abdomen to first off check that my baby was ok. He was also great and even discovered the root of my problem, (not his job) which was gallstones.

By 2pm I had the one surgeon I had met, along with another on, and they really were both fantastic. I honesty thought that being a surgeon they would want to cut me open straight away, but they agreed to wait till my next scan in the morning, and if I was out of pain, then it would be best to wait to operate till after my baby is born.

The Dr who scanned me in the morning was also very professional and answered all of my questions.
