"Cleanliness of Heartlands Hospital"

About: Heartlands Hospital

(as a relative),

I went to the hospital today, there was quite abit of litter around, the toilets next to ward 9 male were very dirty, most of the smoking shelters had around 50 cigarette ends all over the floor. Please can you ask maintenance to sweep them please?

The main corridor in the old bit of the hospital is very plain, if possible i would like to donate some pictures. Thankyou.

Thank you for your message. Regrettably, despite hourly checks of the facilities, some users of the hospital's public toilets and smoking shelters do not leave them in the condition they found them, which we agree is totally unacceptable. We encourage the public to let a member of hospital staff know if they find a toilet or the one of the smoking shelters in an unsatisfactory condition, so that it can be cleaned immediately. In the meantime, we will step-up inspections of these areas to avoid any future incidents as you have described.

Thank you for the offer of pictures as well. I am sorry if you feel the main corridor is too plain, as we have designed this area using artwork and colours along the theme of the four seasons, so starting with summer on one end and finishing with winter on the other, and also adding careful signage to help people navigate their way through the large hospital site.

We have also put in place local art displays at a couple of strategic points around the hospital. This includes one at the entrance to the corridor leading from the main entrance which has gone down extremely well.

I would welcome the opportunity to share with you some of the work we are doing with art and music to improve the experiences of our patients and their visitors. If you would like to see this in more detail, please do feel free to contact me directly. I can be reached through the hospital switchboard 0121 424 2000.
