"If you have this condition/operation the RM is the..."

About: The Royal Marsden Hospital (London)

What I liked

The plastics team are fantastic. They understand the issues that a woman like me who is having to undergo a double mastectomy and DIEP faces and work hard to do all they can to help. Unfortunately there are some less wonderful staff and I met a couple of them but overall my care as both an in and outpatient has been great. I'm so grateful that my RM Plastics consultant recognised the failings of my local hospital and worked to have my whole care transfered to RM so I'm now confident that I really am receiving the best care all round

What could be improved

I would have liked to be on the dedicated ward for my type of surgery straight after I came out of HDU. It was only after my care failed that the alarm was raised and from that point on I was treated with respect, understanding and dignity.

I would also have liked to have had more information about my discharge as I was suddenly in a taxi and on my way home feeling very vunerable 5 days after pretty major surgery.

Anything else?

Although the RM has a linked unit at my local hospital I would not recommend anyone goes through them as the communication between the two is sadly lacking. The RM has, in my case, worked hard to give me the care I need for my original condition, operation and ongoing issues created by the surgery.
