"My experience when being seen for possibly twisted testicle"

About: Torbay Hospital / Accident and emergency Torbay Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

When I consulted my GP about a swollen and painful left testicle, he sent me straight to Torbay A and E as my condition would have been very serious if my testis had twisted on itself.

In the event - fortunately - an ultrasound showed that it was only epididymitis. I had to wait 2 hours before seeing a doctor which was longer than I'd hoped in view of the possible urgency.

After one hour of waiting I was seen by a kind female nurse who checked me in and soon after by a very pleasant and efficient male nurse who took me to the surgical ward.

The doctors who examined me were kind and reassuring and knowledgeable, and the people in ultrasound were also very courteous and caring. Finally I was taken to a ward (A and E were too busy) and seen by a different doctor who was completely au fait with my case and explained the recommended treatment clearly. The only thing I would criticise is that reception staff could offer more information to patients on arrival about waiting times and procedure of being seen.
