"Thank you Active Lifestyle"

About: City Health Care Partnership CIC / Active Lifestyles Service

(as a service user),

I am a 65 year old lady, due partly to being on steroids had put on almost 4st. Each time I was taken off medication I managed to lose some of the weight but then had to be put back on them and so it continued. My blood pressure was out of control and I struggled to do every day tasks and was always so breathless.

I knew about Active Lifestyle so asked my GP to refer me, but because my BP was so high I was refused, however when it was a little lower I asked my nurse to re-refer me as I knew I needed to do something. This time they took me on and I met a lovely young lady called Alison who listened to me then said you really know what you are doing wrong, yes but I needed just a bit of support.

I started aqua aerobics, going for at first short walks then longer ones, started cutting down on the amount of food on my plate. Within weeks my BP was better, I am nowhere near as out of breath and I am steadily losing weight. I feel so much better.

So anyone out there who thinks 'I can't do it', you can. My support from Alison has always been positive which has helped me no end. So go for it, ask your GP or nurse to refer you, within a short time you will be so much better for it. You can't always expect a pill to sort things out, sometimes you have to do a little work yourself, nothing massive just slowly, gently but believe me it is so worth it.

So I say 'thank you Active Lifestlye' and thank you Alison my guiding star.

Thank you for your comments.

I am very pleased that Allison's support has helped you to improve your blood pressure and breathing and that you have also been able to lose weight.

Well done on achieving your goals and good luck in continuing with your new, healthier lifestyle in the future.

If things start to get difficult in the future, think about how you feel now and it will help to motivate you to continue with your new routine.
