What I liked
My mum, who is 83, has just been discharged from ward 14 and I cannot praise the care she has received highly enough. She has been treated at all times with compassion and respect and the medical care has been excellent. Staff always found time to reassure her and explain what was happening. They also kept me updated on her progress and didn't mind if I telephoned to check she had settled for the night etc.
She was admitted via A&E, went to ward 3 then ward 5 then onto ward 14
All staff we came into contact with were professional and efficient but I would especially like to thank the doctor from ward 5, her consultant on ward 14 and the sisters on ward 14, who were wonderful and with their team, went the extra mile to ensure my mum was comfortable and received the best of attention--not an easy task on such a busy ward.
The NHS often comes in for criticism but with staff like those mentioned UHND is setting the benchmark. Thank you.
What could be improved
There was quite a long wait for a bed on a ward to become free when she was admitted via A&E.
Availability and Bed Management could have been better
