About: Broomfield Hospital

What I liked

We were rushed to Broomfield by ambulance from St Peters in Maldon as the birth wasn't progressing as expected. Staff dealt with our situation speedily and professionally and tried other means before deciding an emergency c section was required. Although I wasn't given the choice i feel the staff knew the signs and was happy they made the decision on my behalf. Infact, baby was in distress and had swallowed a lot of meconium and his cord was wrapped round him so clearly if i'd argued, i would have made matters worse. After care was superb. I was monitored to ensure i was fine having had a spinal block. By the time i was transferred to the post natal ward i was starting to feel my legs. I was offered tea and toast which was most welcome. 5 hours after the birth i was well enough to take a shower and was walked to the shower room. I was monitored throughout the night and baby was offered to be lifted to me as i couldn;t do it myself. Next morning and throughout the day various staff who had operated on me including the anaethetist came to see how baby and i were doing and was really impressed that the ambulance staff came to visit too. We were allowed to leave 6pm that night... 24 hours after arriving.

What could be improved

The only thing i was warned about with Broomfield was that they don't keep you there long which after major abdominal surgery i thought was a strange, however I guess as i was feeling fine, my bed was possibly better used for someone who needed it more than me.

During change of staff, a sample i had given got lost but not exactly the end of the world.
