For years I watched my elderly grandmother care for my increasingly dependent grandfather. As life became more and more difficult for him, so his daily mood worsened. The wonderful man I once knew became trapped in an old mans body. Not once in all the years of care however did my grandmother show even the smallest sign of burden. A mark of a truly selfless person. I have always wondered though, as the number of older people increases, how will we cope? How can life in the twilight years be improved as we all live longer and longer.
I am now a student at the Royal College of Art and doing my final major project on the future of care of the elderly population. My aim is design a way for more support to be given to those caring for an elderly person as well as improving the elderly person's quality of life. The aim of this website is to collect as many comments, stories, opinions, likes, dislikes, concerning the care of our ageing population. What would be done if we were starting again?
