About: Lister Hospital

What could be improved

My mother-in-law is currently in the hospital following major surgery. My husband is with her - thank god.We cannot get any direct information from the consultant who did the surgery - not via his team. The staff have communication difficulties and she feels they are not responding to her well. The hospital feel too busy and under-staffed and communication is a very big problem. We are middle class graduates and know how to ask a question - so we know it's not us! I am literally quite frightened for her, having read some of these comments, and seen previous inspection reports.

We're sorry that you feel your concerns and questions are not being answered, but there is a way round this - ask to speak with the duty matron. If you feel you're not getting feedback from the ward sister and her team, our matrons are there to intervene on your behalf. If you would rather not ask the ward team to do this for you, you can just go to the hospital's main reception desk and ask them to page the duty matron - they work throughout the week, Monday to Friday, although not at nights.
