"problems during an inpatient stay"

About: University Hospital Llandough / Mental Illness

(as a service user),

I recently stayed on an inpatient ward at the Llandough mental health unit and I found the service disgusting. I have a number of issues I wish to raise;

I was left in a room and told to shut up and stop being a baby but staff.

Very often the ward smelt of urine.

One day early in the morning (around 2am) I was reading out loud to myself because I couldn’t sleep. A member of staff came in and assumed I was on my phone. They then threated to take my phone away from me if I carried on, even though I tried to explain I was not on my phone at all.

I am disabled and need help getting dressed yet during my time on the ward no one would help me so I had to try and do it on my own.

I was hit by another patient on the ward but staff told me to withdraw my complaint.

For three months they would not use my proper name, dispite having it changed legally. I had to show them the deed poll papers to prove it before thy would call me the correct name.

I tried to commit suicide on the Monday and only one member of staff on the whole unit seemed to care. They were really understanding and I think they deserve a medal for the work they do.

I must say that the Llandough assessment unit I attended first was outstanding. I thought the staff there were outstanding.
