"A stressfull day made even worse by incensitivity..."

About: Rochdale Infirmary

What I liked

nothing

What could be improved

Personal care and sensitivity.I attended this hospital because of my third miscarriage to have a dnc at the day clinic,my partner was with me for support as he had been on the previous two dnc,one at oldham hospital and one at bury hospital. As the nurse called my name we both stood up to enter the ward and as we got to the door of the ward the nurse abrubtly told us that my partner could not stay with me as he was not allowed on the ward,my partner stated that he could not believe this as at the other two hospitals there was no problem and was made very welcome by the nurses. At this stage i was becoming very upset and told the nurse i needed him with me,but she still insisted he had to go home and ring later. It was only when i burst into tears that another nurse turned round and said let him stay ,we were then escorted into a very sparce large room that looked like a warehouse with unused machines in,that doubled for a makeshift ward.A nurse told me to dress in gown and someone would be round in a while.Doctor came and had a word then 3.5 hours later a nurse arrived and said they were ready for me,not once did anyone see if i was alright in this period and i found this very uncaring. When i came back from the op i asked where my partner was, i was told he had been sent outside to waiting room as he was again told he wasnt allowed on the ward.I had to ask a nurse to go outside to let him know everything was ok as he would be worried. When i finally left the ward my partner informed me the nurse had said as soon as i came back on to ward he would be allowed to sit with me,but when the nurse came to waiting room to let him know i was ok he was denied from re-entering the ward. This is the worst example of patient care and sensitivity i have ever experienced during my visits to many north west hospitals.Oldham hospital was great and bury fairfield hospital was even better,as for rochdale i think they should take a look at the service they provide.

Anything else?

If people are not allowed to stay with their relatives during operations in daycare they should be informed of this before they attend,as there seemed to be a lot of people were shocked when being told this when they got there, as it can only add to the already high stress levels.it seems only rochdale hospital have this rule.
