"Harsh treatment considering I tried to contact the..."

About: Orsett Hospital

Anything else?

I'm an insulin dependent diabetic & have been for 28 years (since childhood). The doctors & nurses have always been brilliant but in January I had an appointment but was unable to attend, I was given the extension number for the Diabetic Centre & was greeted with a pre recorded message telling me that there was noone available & then got cut off. I keep trying to contact them but to no avail. When I eventually got through on the next working day I was told that I'd been discharged because I missed my appointment & would have to go to my GP to be re-referred. This was the first time I'd missed an appointment in 28 years - how ridiculous is that? This will now result in more appointments for the same thing which is not always easy when you're in full time work.

Although Basildon and Thurrock Hospitals owns and manages Orsett Hospital, some of the services provided from the hospital are community or outreach clinics that are run by other NHS organisations. The Diabetic Centre is run by South West Essex Community Services (part of North East London NHS Foundation Trust). We have alerted them to your concern. Please contact their Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)on 0800 783 8519 or email: cspatientexperience@swessex.nhs.uk for assistance.
