"Lost dentures: update and suggestion"

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

(as a carer),

Update re my mother in law's lost dentures.

Since I reported this, a dentist has now been contacted who at first was reluctant to visit my mother in law in the community hospital but has now agreed. The Royal Surrey will pay for the new dentures.

When speaking to the nurses, they say that sometimes older people take their dentures out at meal times (or after) and put them in the paper napkin which is then inadvertently picked up with the debris. If support staff were trained to routinely check debris for dentures - especially where the patient is an older person - then this could cut the number of incidents of missing dentures.

Just a thought.
