"My experience as a parent on the children's ward at Rotherham District General"

About: Rotherham Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a relative),

* Dirt/dust behind the bed.

* Most staff were great but we thought one nurse was extremely abrupt and rude and was not willing to listen to our views as parents. As a result we felt our daughter was put through unnecessary distress.

* Information was not given to us regards visiting hours or number of parents able to stay at night at any point. We were then almost told off by the same nurse mentioned above when two parents were still there after 8pm.

* My daughter is intolerant to dairy and soya and very little food was available for her!

As part of my role, I support clinical services who undertake patient and public involvement on behalf of The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust which helps us to develop or redesign our services with patients in mind, from the valuable feedback we are given.

Dear titanium255, thank you for taking the time and trouble to post your detailed comments on the Patients Opinion web site. We really do appreciate your feedback and were most concerned to read about the account of your experience of our Children’s Ward.

Your experiences reflect a standard of care that was below what we expect and for which we apologise. In particular we recognise the important and valuable role that parents play in ensuring that we provide the best care to a child and how good communication underpins that relationship.

In order for us to best address the issues you raise, we would really value you making direct contact with us via our Patient Services Department, who have been made aware of your concerns, on either complaints@rothgen.nhs.uk or by telephone on 01709 424461.

With best wishes,

Grace
