I live in Cardiff and recently the health board seems to have decided it will only dispense venlafaxine as the standard tablets, which have to be taken twice a day, rather than slow release ones which are taken once a day. It is well recognised that there will be better compliance with a once a day drug and having been on the slow release version for 7 years it is not surprising that since starting the bd version a week ago, I keep forgeting to take the evening dose. This has led me to start feeling quite agitated in the mornings. I am reasonably well educated and probably better able to cope with this change than many other more vulnerable patients. Speaking to my psychiatrist, he tells me that a lot of his patients are experiencing this problem. While I can understand the desire to save money, I feel that this may be at too great a cost to patients.
I wonder if you have any comment on this issue?
