"absolutely dreadful a 3rd world hospital full of..."

About: St Helier Hospital

What could be improved

less agency nurses who don't seem bothered

Anything else?

Nurses on the ward spent longer arguing who was supposed to be working that night than on any other thing.

Medicines were prescribed in liquid form to my son for the incredible pain he was in after splintering his elbow but he was nil by mouth for an operation

so no pain killers, too difficult to set up intravenous drip no doctors

One nurse lent on my sons leg whilst trying to punch a hole in their paperwork ,

then proceeded to write down numbers from the obs machine and they had not cleared it from the last patient it was only when we told them they actually turned it on and took my sons obs properly.

no one could prescribe a sling it needs a doctor and they were rare as hens teeth,

to be honest I could go on but it seems pointless this hospital has been like this for years.

Thank you for letting us have your feedback about the care your son received at St Helier Hospital.

I am disappointed to hear you were not happy. As you can imagine, I expect all patients to receive a very high level of care.

I have passed your comments on to the department involved and have asked them to make sure your feedback is cascaded to the ward.

Moreover, if you would like to discuss your concerns in more detail, then please feel free to contact our PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) team on 020 8296 2508 or via email: pals@esth.nhs.uk. You can also contact them via our website: http://www.epsom-sthelier.nhs.uk/contact-us/your-feedback/.

Finally, I would like to reassure you that our use of temporary and agency nurses (and other staff) has been reduced significantly over the past year or so. Having said that, I expect all of our staff - both temporary and permanent - to act in the most professional way possible.

Thank you again for your comments. I am sorry your experience at St Helier wasn't to the standard I would expect.

Pippa Hart

Director of Nursing
