"Taking daughter to Torbay A&E"

About: Torbay Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My daughter fell down stairs at a friends house, she wasn't unconscious - but her head was hurting and later said her "brain was hurting" there was no bump so we were concerned, we checked on-line and was recommended to go to A&E.

It was around 8pm on a Sunday and it was very busy.

It wasn't very pleasant having to walk via the smokers around the entrance of A&E. The receptionist initially seemed a little "offish" (which I just put down to being so busy) but as soon as she started speaking to my daughter was very good with her.

We had to wait for quite some time, understandably as it was so busy - when we were called in a nice nurse explained we had been bumped up the queue due to being a child with a head injury - she assessed her and explained we would need to go back to the waiting room as there didn't appear to be any major issues, but would need to be seen by a doctor - she did explain it may take some time due to being so busy :) She went off to get some pain relief, in the meantime my daughter and I were playing with a cool ball "thing" in our waiting area - when the nurse returned she said we could wait here for the doctor instead of the waiting room since we were having fun - this was great :)

Not too long later the doctor came and saw us - he was also very nice - and explained what he was doing/checking and said not to hesitate to come back if we had any issues.

Both the nurse and doctor were so nice and calm in what must have been a bit of a nightmare evening.

I wanted to let them know how happy I was with the service we received because people are always very quick to let people know about bad things - but not so often on good things.

I was very happy with them - thanks very much :)

(Did I mention it was busy!!)
