"Excellent. I felt better by the end of my stay,..."

About: Northgate Hospital

What I liked

This is the best mental health care hospital I have ever been a patient in. The nurses are great and so caring. Great occupational therapy. A very therapeutic environment to get well, to recover, to get help.

What could be improved

More resources and equipment for an obviously dedicated occupational therapy team. Great what they are able to do with patients, but they need more resources. Occupational therapy helped me immensely and I could see it helping other patients immensely also.

Very importantly, more beds are required because some patients get moved out of the hospital prematurely to make room for a new patient. This did happen to me. Yes, I was getting better, but was not completely ready to leave. This also happened to some other patients and in the case of one of them, she ended up being readmitted just a week later. This proves that she should never have been prematurely discharged. She was actually sectionned again.

The computer available for female patients needs serious attention. It didn;t work properly - this isn't an urgent issue, but it was a way for certain patients to keep themselves occupied in a different way to occupational therapy

Anything else?

The nurses are highly motivated, caring and friendly. There is always someone available to talk to. Excellent. A very therapeutic environment for recovery. Good food - always plenty to eat.
