"Concerns about night nurses at Sunderland Royal"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

(as a relative),

My partner stayed recently at Sunderland Royal for several days.

The day staff were (mostly) wonderful but some of the night staff were the worst kind of nurses I can imagine. Each night I received several phone calls off my partner about their treatment of her, and the others in her bay, on the ward.

When asked for the pain medication she was prescribed (hourly for one pain relief, 4 hourly for another pain relief and anti-sickness), they claimed there was no prescription for her and to stop bothering them. Even though that afternoon the doctor had written it and the day staff had followed it to the letter.

Only when my partner was so bad that she was literally crying and vomiting with the pain did the pain relief fianlly come (up to four hours wait for the 'hourly' pain relief).

Other times she's just completely ignored with a rolling of the eyes as the nurse stalks off without uttering a word the only sign she's been heard. Other patients have suffered similar with an incontinent patient being thrown some wipes and told to 'clean the mess yourself, why should I keep doing it'.

But she's scared to complain after someone else made a complaint and the nurse involved stormed into the bay demanding to know 'who put in a complaint, I know it was one of you'.
