"upsetting and demoralising."

About: Guy's Hospital

What I liked

unfortunately my experience of the anticoagulation clinic has been terrible. constantly short staffed, 'bleed & go' taking hours, and worst of all for me - no sense of patient care when i was due to have major surgery & needed a plan to adjust my warfarin therapy. i was given a box of clexane after two hours sitting in the waiting room, and told someone would call me later. they did not call. when i finally got through the next day a very unfriendly nurse told me that they are too busy and i should have told them about surgery earlier - (I gave them 5 weeks notice) No advice on how to administer clexane injections on my own for the first time - no pastoral care whatsoever, and general apathy towards their patient. in the end they sent a letter to test my INR the day after surgery - i was still not walking by that point.

What could be improved

this clinic have clearly taken on more patients than they can handle- totally oversubscribed and the few staff they have are not coping. this is life & death they are dealing with, not the sort of thing that can be so badly managed.
