"Great treatment from SLaM services"

About: South London And Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

(as the patient),

I was discharged from secondary services a few years ago, and was managed under primary care with a drug regime which I negotiated and agreed, being managed and maintained by a brilliant GP. From then I began to get my life back on track, but this brought a whole new set of challenges, and last year I was referred to IAPT, so still under primary care. I got on well with the low intensity brief treatment, and my therapist and I agreed that some more, deeper therapy would be beneficial. I was referred back into SLaM services, and thence for 30 weeks of Schema CBT.

At my assessment appointment I said I didn’t want to go back through my life history and stir everything up again, and they said that was fine: they would look at my EPJS records, as I requested.

After waiting a very short time my treatment started. I think I got a great match with my therapist.

I am only a month into my latest lot of therapy, but already my self-esteem is improving as well as my understanding of how my life script is holding me back from coping better. From this, I am working on making changes in my outlook and my actions and choices, towards being more fulfilled today, and being more at peace with my past.

My therapist is brilliant – last week he told me he didn’t know how to help me with something so promised to take it to supervision for us to return to this week. I have concrete homework each week which is both about looking into myself and understanding myself better, and about planning for and making some changes in my life now, at my own pace.

I have also had the most life-changing therapy from the Therapeutic Community at IPTS.

I can’t speak highly enough of the past and present treatment I am receiving
