"lack of patient support"

About: Kettering General Hospital

What could be improved

The care I received was appalling. I spent over 5 hours in A&E, and part of that time was spent in an assessment room with blood splattered on the floor and over the trolley.

I was eventually moved to a surgical ward at 3.00am-ish and they made me partner leave but there was a lady on the ward who was allowed 3 members of her family with her!

I then spent the next day moving around departments, over 4 hours it took to get my scan results back and when I was moved to a new ward, I was left for over 2 hours without any fluids (as they madd me NBM) and not even knowing where the toilet is. They simply wheeled by bed into the corner of the bay and left me.

After asking 4 members of staff what was happening, I was eventually told by a HCA I was longer NBM and would not be going in to surgery as previously thought...apparently this had been decided some time beforehand but I was just not told.

The cleaniness of the hospital was very poor, the nurses were more interested in talking about the weather/partners/holidays...anything except looking after their patients.

I was also told I couldn't see my consultant as he was too busy so my health condition was relayed to me by a HCA, who when I asked if I could possibly have some food as I hadn't eaten for over 24 hours...looked at her watch and sighed!

Overall, a very poor experience, and the most worrying thing is..I work for the NHS, have done for a few years and am currently doing my nurse training.
