What I liked
My wife's experience was truly awful and an insult to the values of the NHS. In particular it was counter to the values espoused by the Hull & EY NHS Trust. The communication skills of the doctors are absolutely disgraceful and prevent them from carrying out their professional roles effectively, to the harm of the patients in their care.
What could be improved
The assumptions about the duties and responsibilities of doctors towards patients needs to be challenged and reframed. Doctors need assessed and trained in relation to their communication skills. Ward-based doctors need to see beyond the walls of the hospital and engage with the lives and circumstances of the fellow human beings and construct effective after care plans.
