Due to a complete upheaval in my life and the wrong boyfriend I fell into heroin addiction. Not only did heroin rob me of the woman I was, it took with it my mental health and physical health not to mention how it left me emotionally.
I turned to prostitution to fund my habit and that of my then boyfriend. It was without doubt the worst four years of my life - but it was my hatred for the job and the then boyfriend that gave me the strength to get out of the awful rut that I was in.
My first care was given to me by Fitzwilliam Centre and my nurse whom was called Rod was wonderful with me, he was very good at listening and his advice was always spot on. He really knew where I was at and what I needed.
After a while my care changed to Guernsey House, I truly cannot fault any of the staff that I have seen, Dr Gordon, Dr Harvey, and Brian - my nurse, and the reception staff have all treated me with the utmost respect. They all want to know how you are and I am very happy to be seen by any of them. All of them have given me fantastic advice, their knowledge of my situation is endless, they have all helped me so much, the receptionists will do all they can to get you in to see someone.
I can honestly say from my experience at Guernsey House that I have nothing negative to say, there have been doctors and nurses that I have met during this period of addiction in my life and I have been made to feel wretched. Whilst I do accept this is all my fault and I'm a massive drain on the NHS, Guernsey House staff (all the people I have mentioned above) have treated me well, never looking me up and down and just wanting to know what they can do for me, Dr Gordon, Dr Harvey and Brian are intelligent caring people who do wonderful work.
If there was only more people like them.
