"Endoscopy at Queen Margaret hospital"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as a relative),

My father had to have an endoscopy with biopsies to be taken. He asked to have sedation rather than the throat spray. We arrived fifteen minutes early for the appointment. Dad was taken off and I waited for him.

Over two hours later, he still had not been done and they basically told him he would be in the department much longer if he really wanted sedation so I feel they effectively bullied him into the throat spray to get it done quicker.

Afterwards, they handed me a copy of the report and I noticed there was no mention of biopsies being taken so I asked the nurse. The nurse checked his notes and then rushed off to find the registrar, who checked and then it was a very quick discussion and persuading my dad to go back in and get the biopsies done. This proved quite painful for my dad and left him feeling quite distressed.

The staff were very apologetic about things but everything seemed to be rushed and about getting us out of there so they could get home. We arrived early for an appointment that they had scheduled so to be treated in this way is quite disappointing.

It had taken me weeks of patient discussion to get my Dad ready for this and get his head in the right place and it was nearly all undone by the experience. He is now reluctant to have another one and he should be having them fairly regularly.
