I thought crisis teams were supposed to be on hand every minute of every day when somebody experiencing a mental health problem is in crisis. Several times now we have had to ring crisis teams for them not to turn up or not answer.

This resulted in us having to phone 999 which resulted in a riot team, normal policeman, but nothing which was actually going to assist the person.

He ended up being arrested when really he needed to see a member of the mental health team/ crisis team.

I think these services are a disgrace, i shouldn't have to hear the stigma of people saying he's a psycho and so on. The services need to be on hand.

We are very sorry to hear of this person’s experience relating to the crisis team. We can only apologise for the lack of service received at a very worrying and difficult time.

Across the area covered by the Trust, there are a number of crisis teams which are made up of mental health professionals from a range of backgrounds, such as mental health nurses, occupational therapists, social workers and doctors.

The role of the team is to provide assessment of a person’s mental health and based upon this assessment decide whether someone needs intensive support because of the severe mental health problems being experienced or alternatively referral to other appropriate services. This service is offered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

It would appear from the situation you describe that this did not happen, therefore it would be very useful to know which crisis team you are referring to so we could investigate and respond to you It is important that we learn from people’s experiences to try and ensure this does not happen to anyone else.
