"Good care at Poole A&E after poor assessment at GP Surgery"

About: Poole General Hospital / Accident and emergency Poole General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a relative),

My daughter injured her shoulder about 2 1/2 weeks ago, it hadn't improved and we became increasingly worried. Medical opinion was to keep the shoulder moving and we were prescribed codeine to go with paracaetamol.

As we approached nearly 3 weeks, we felt we should take matters into our own hands and attended Poole Hospital A&E Dept. Dr Wright and nursing colleagues were the first medical professionals we came into contact with who seemed not to judge based on first impression. The x-ray showed that my daughter had torn her supraspinatus muscle in her shoulder, a nasty injury which she should make a full recovery from.

It's a shame it took nearly 3 weeks, two General Practitioners and a call to NHS Direct, all of whom we felt gave inappropriate advice and caused unnecessary suffering. So my family wants to thank Dr Wright and nursing staff at Poole A&E for their care and professional knowledge.
