"Nothing but praise for EVERYONE at the Golden Jubilee Hospital"

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital / Cardiac Surgery

(as the patient),

I was a patient in ward 3 East for just over a week - coronary bypass procedure and recovery.

Nothing but praise for everyone who was involved in any way with any medical or social care / welfare, including all auxillary staff as well as medical. Although there seemed to be an enormous number of nurses / auxiliary nurses involved in looking after me, each and everyone was professional, pleasant and attentive.

The high number of staff is presumably the result of P/T workers and rosters, but communication / handover appeared to be good and everyone aware of my needs.

I realise that a huge number of patients are treated every week and therefore for staff there may just be a slight touch of "Its just routine" but for me and possibly others the whole business is anything but routine. It is in fact a fairly traumatic and scary experience, so maybe just a little bit of reassurance that things are "normal" or "fine" would be great.

Response from Christine McGuinness, Communications Manager, Golden Jubilee National Hospital

Dear Mask593, thank you for telling us your story.

We are delighted to hear that you felt our staff were professional, pleasant and attentive when looking after you but are sorry to hear that you felt some staff could do more to reassure patients during their hospital stay.

We have passed your comments on to the ward and are reminding our staff of the importance of providing reassurance consistently.

If you have any ideas on what more could have been done in your case, we would be happy to hear your thoughts – please get in touch with us by emailing enquiries@gjnh.scot.nhs.uk.
