"Nurse refused to treat me for an abscess which resulted in emergency surgery"

About: Frome Community Hospital

(as the patient),

I came to Frome Hospital around the end of Sept for a really bad abscess I had in the top of my leg. The nurse said I couldn’t have antibiotics as it was not an abscess and it was where my boxer shorts were rubbing against my leg. I said I was 100% sure it was an abscess and that I needed antibiotics urgently. We argued for a while.

When I left and told my partner, she was shocked and went back to Frome Hospital and told them that I had a history of getting bad abscesses and I needed antibiotics. The nurse totally refused.

At home I rang my doctor who then contacted the hospital and ordered the nurse to issue antibiotics. Within 48 hours I saw another doctor who said my abscess was so bad that antibiotics were now too late and said I needed to go straight to Hospital or I would probably die.

I was in Hospital for days and had to have surgery where they had to drain huge amounts of the poison. With the swelling of my leg, my history and my partner explaining the circumstances leading to my abscess I find it unbelievable I had not been treated properly.
