I am full of admiration for all the members of staff that I have been in contact with during my recent treatment for cataracts, The staff were efficient, polite and took care of all the patients.

My one comment is about the drops that are given following surgery. On both occasions I was given one 10ml bottle of antibiotic and on both occasions this was just about the correct quantity. I was also, on both occasions, given one 5ml bottle of Maxidex, on neither occasion did this last for more than 14 days. The first time I requested a prescription for Maxidex from my GP, he prescribed 10ml which, fortunately, came in 2 bottles so I still had an unopened bottle to use following my second operation. If the hospital supplied 10mls of Maxidex it would save the NHS money by not having the GP prescribing a further quantity. Going to the GP costs the patient time and possibly transport costs, costs the GP time which could otherwise be spent with patients who are ill, costs time and money to print out and make up the prescription.

Otherwise I have only praise for the treatment I received.

re: your medication - patients are provided with medication based on their clinical needs at that time. If, when having a repeat procedure, you feel the original prescription was not sufficient, please do highlight this to the nurse in charge who will happily take this into consideration and highlight this to the Pharmacy team.
